Magician to Conjure up Funds for Charity
(Feb 10)
The Belfast news reports on the efforts of magician Paul Starr to raise half a million pounds for Alzheimer's Northern Ireland in memory of his late mother. "I want to do something in her memory and I am offering my services free of charge for fundraising shows throughout the province. I am hoping to do two or three of these shows a month and I'm looking to hear from anyone interested in helping out. We need venues in which to hold shows and it can be anywhere in Northern Ireland. I don't mind if the hosts make some money from the bar or whatever, but all the money raised by the show itself will go to the charity. Half a million pounds is a big target but I will continue to do as much as I can for as long as I can in memory of my mother."

Mystic, Magician, or Madman?
(Feb 9)
Uri Gellar is the subject of an article in the online edition of the newspaper of Imperial College. The article opens, "Mystic, Magician, or Madman? I was going to add charlatan to that list but it would have broken up the chain of alliteration. No, but seriously, I have to be very careful about what I say. Geller has a history of litigation proceedings against anyone who tries to slander his name or what he does."

Rick and Karen Rogers, owners of the new Rick Rogers Family Magic Shop in downtown Albany are profiled in an article from the Gazette Times in which Rick is quoted, "A lot of stores that carry this stuff, the people there won't even know how to open the box, let alone know how to use it," said Rick Rogers, gesturing to one of his bigger magic sets for beginners. "One good thing about our store is my wife and I are both magicians. We had a grandparent buy a set for their grandson, and he understood some stuff but was having a problem with one trick. I worked with him until he had it down. It's fun to teach this stuff."
