RANDOM HOUSE INC
VILLARD BOOKS TO PUBLICH
MAGICIAN DAVID BLAINE'S FIRST BOOK
NEW YORK, June 27, 2000
Villard Books, an imprint of Random House, Inc., has acquired
the first book by celebrated magician David Blaine to be published in the fall of 2001.
Designed to amaze, disturb, intrigue and entertain, Blaine's book will bring his unique blend of
magic and downtown sensibility into the reader's world, supporting Blaine's belief that
"you don't get into magic, magic get's into you."
Blaine's magic and stunts, including two #1 rated television specials and being "Buried Alive"
for seven days in Manhattan, have made Blaine one of the hottest magician's working today.
Coming up, Blaine will be "Frozen Alive" in a huge block of ice for three days in central Park this
November, star in two new prime time specials on ABC TV and will be bringing his show to a broadway stage in 2001.
"Villard Books has a long history of being there first," said Ann Godoff, President, Publisher and
Editor in Chief of the Random House Trade Group. "David Blaine is the magician of the
new millennium and I couldn't be more pleased that he found a home at Villard."
In his book, Blaine will explore the history of magic and some of the greatest stunts ever
accomplished, as well as his own influences. It will also contain optical illusions, magic
effects, number
magic, memory techniques, how to read someone, explanations of witchcraft, voodoo and the occult, and other aspects of the magical world.
The book will be titled MYSTERIOUS STRANGER and will be published in the Fall of 2001.
The deal was brokered by David Vigliano of Vigliano Associates.
