Blaine's daring "Frozen Alive" stunt - - the first of its kind to be done on live television - - will take place in full public view at a heavily trafficked location at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
The spellbingding Blaine, whose breathtaking live burial in April 1999 stunned New Yorkers and kept people around the country in suspenseful disbelief for a week, will go without food for the duration of the stunt. Blaine, who has been preparing by immersing
himself in tubs of ice and attempting to acclimate himself to the cold temperatures, will be wearing only a pair of shorts and boots to protect himself. Inside, the block of ice will be molded to fit around Blaine's body, holding him completely imobile.
The two halves of the 8'x5'x5' ice block will be joined together and stood upright, making it appear that Blaine is suspended like a fly in the middle of one of the world's biggest ice cubes. More details of the upcoming stunt will be announced at a later date.
On his new "David Blaine 2" special, the riviting master magician will continue to captivate,
astound and seduce people with his distinctive style of close-up and personal magic. This time,
Blaine hopes to makean impact on people's lives with a new collection of amazing one-on-one sleight of hand skills and mind
boggling effects.
Blaine's last special, "David Blaine: Magic Man," which aired in april 1999, returned Blaine to the city streets of New York, memphis, Nashville and New Orleans, as wll as transported him to the exotic jungles of Haiti and South America.
His jaw-bropping demonstrations of intimate magic continued to elicit outright screams of disbelief from unexpecting passerby.
The special was preceded by Blaines historic, weeklong "Buried Alive" stunt on the
West Side of Manhattan, as he rested in a transparent coffin six feet down and beneath a
two-ton tank of water - - a feat not even the legendary escape artist Harry Houdini attempted.
Tens of thousands of skeptics and believers alike stood in line 24 hours a day to get a glimpse of Blaine in his temporary tomb. Having prepared for this
monumental challenge by fasting for six days before the start, Blaine continued to abstain from food during the stunt, sustaining himself with only a little water and the company of his visitors. He
emerged a little wobbly, but healthy, after his ordeal.
The country was initially introduced to Blaine's amazing new brand of one on one
magic on his first ABC special, "David Blaine: Street Magic," which aired in May 1997.
The show culminated in a series of Mind boggling self levitations that still have people buzzing.
