In 1999, Joe Mantegna debut as Spenser in the first of several made for TV Movies produced for the A&E Network. Marcia Gay Harden was cast in the role of Susan and Sheik Mahmud Bey as Hawk.
The first two hour production was "Small Vices," which aired on July 18th, 1999 and included a cameo appearance by the author as CIA agent Ives. Parker's son Daniel also made an appearance as Lee Farrell.
"Thin Air" was broadcast on A&E in September of 2000 and featured a cameo of RBP as a "Sleeping Cop", his son Dan as a priest and his wife Joan as a Doctor.
"Walking Shadow" was televised by A&E in 2001 with Ernie Hudson taking on the role of Hawk.
